Tech:NYC’s Statement on the New York State Budget
Tech:NYC President & Executive Director Julie Samuels released this statement on the New York State budget passed May 2nd:
“Tech:NYC applauds Governor Hochul and the New York State Legislature for passing a budget that will support the continued growth of New York’s tech ecosystem, helping the sector create even more jobs and economic opportunity for New Yorkers.
The tech sector — and all New Yorkers — will benefit greatly from extending the NYC Biotechnology Tax Credit, establishing a state matching fund for the federal Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs, allocating $20 million in grants for computer science education programs serving economically disadvantaged students, and protecting the online data privacy of abortion seekers from out-of-state law enforcement.
Tech:NYC also worked with lawmakers to ensure MTA funding — a top priority for tech workers in NYC — would be secure, but we are glad that the funding will not come at the price of innovation through taxes on streaming, rideshare platforms, delivery platforms, or on hardworking New Yorkers already struggling with inflation and high housing costs.
We are proud to have worked alongside the Governor and Legislature on a budget reflective of New York’s values, and we look forward to continuing a dialogue in support of policies that make New York the global hub of technological innovation.”
